For the second time in the last three seasons, the Hinds Community College baseball program staked its claim as the best team in the state of Mississippi, as the Eagles defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, 6-5, to win the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state championship in Fulton on Saturday.

Hinds (34-16), which also won the MACJC state title in 2010, went through the state tournament unscathed, defeating Jones County Junior College, host Itawamba Community College and Gulf Coast in consecutive days... Read More

The Hinds Community College baseball team had hit a bit of an offensive dry spell heading into the first round of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) playoffs, but the Eagles broke out in a big way, scoring 25 runs in a two-game sweep of Northwest Community College to advance to the MACJC state tournament.

Jackson Academy track coach Jason Williams found his calling in life at Mississippi College.

A 1994 MC graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree in business communications, Williams wasn’t exactly sure what would do for a career.

A Magee native who lettered in track and field for four years on the Clinton campus, Williams was advised by Choctaws track coach Billy Lamb and others to simply “do the thing you’re good at doing.”

And that solid piece of advice led Williams, who holds MC’s indoor and outdoor pole vault records, to enter track’s coaching ranks.
