Lovett principal named National Distinguished Principal

CLINTON — Richard Burge, principal of Lovett Elementary School, is a National Distinguished Principal.

Burge was presented the award during a surprise presentation on Tuesday. He is the only principal in Mississippi to receive the award this year.

“Mr. Burge holds his students and teachers to a high standard of achievement, he is a strong manager and he hires only the best teachers,” Burchfield said. “What he’s doing at Lovett is a formula for success.

CLINTON — The Sumner Hill choir has had a ‘Superior’ year, capping off a successful competition season with a performance at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.

Hinds baseball wins state title

For the second time in the last three seasons, the Hinds Community College baseball program staked its claim as the best team in the state of Mississippi, as the Eagles defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, 6-5, to win the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state championship in Fulton on Saturday.
