The Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is having its annual Walk MS event Saturday in Flowood.

The walk is at Winner's Circle Park. Check in opens at 8 a.m.

Free Health Fair at Mississippi College Monday

The Mississippi College School of Nursing invites citizens to attend a free health fair at Brighton Park in Clinton. The fair is scheduled for April 16, from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

MC along with the Central Mississippi Medical Center will promote the theme "Win the Gold with Good Health" throughout the event. The health fair will ofter participants free health screenings, health education and lunch.

MISSISSIPPI STATE -- A glass of milk may not look like preventive medicine, but daily calcium intake can build strong bones that are less likely to break.

“Osteoporosis is a loss of bone density to the point where fractures occur earlier and more easily. While more prevalent in women, men can also have osteoporosis,” said Diane Tidwell, associate professor in Mississippi State University’s Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion.

Great Strides Race Raises Funds to Fight Cystic Fibrosis

A 26-year-old Mississippi College graduate, Tyler Blount of Clinton has fought Cystic Fibrosis since he was an infant.

Doing two hours of physical therapy daily and taking nearly 36 pills each day, the Mississippi accountant continues to battle the disease. These days, Blount is also getting his body prepared to run a 5K Jackson road race to help raise money to combat CF.

Blount will have his running shoes on for the 2012 Jackson Great Strides Walk/5K Run set for April 21 at Mayes Lake off Lakeland Drive. It begins with a 9 a.m. 5K registration and 9:30 a.m. walk registration.

Clinton Junior High receives $1,000 health and wellness grant

Clinton Junior High receives $1,000 health and wellness grant

CLINTON — Clinton Junior High’s health and wellness efforts are getting a big boost from the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association.

The school was notified this month that it is receiving a $1,000 grant for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. CJHS has used the FUTP60 program in recent years to promote healthy eating and exercise habits among its students.

“We’re excited about this grant,” said CJHS health council coordinator and teacher Bonnie Brown.
