'Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites' coming soon to MCM

The Mississippi Children's Museum will soon welcome its first traveling exhibit -- "Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites".

The exhibit features famous characters and iconic scene taken right out of the pages of seven celebrated children's books: "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "The Snowy Day", "Abuela", "Tuesday", and "Where’s Spot?".

Storyland's grand opening is Saturday, May 19. It will run through Aug. 26.

John Bell Williams Airport to host remote-controlled plane fly-in

The John Bell Williams Airport in Raymond and the Hinds Community College Aviation Department will host the 21st Annual Mississippi Afterburner Jet Rally Thursday-Saturday, May 3-5.

More than 75 remote-controlled jet pilots will participate in the event, flying their model turbine-powered jets at speeds of more than 200 mph. New vaccine required for seventh-graders

CLINTON — Students entering the seventh grade this fall are required to have the Tdap vaccination.

The requirement was announced this month by the Mississippi State Department of Health. The Tdap vaccine covers tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis.

Mississippi is one of 42 states now requiring this vaccine.

“Students can get vaccinated at any health department for $10,” said Clinton Public School District nurse Renee Martin.

Great Strides Race Raises Funds to Fight Cystic Fibrosis

A 26-year-old Mississippi College graduate, Tyler Blount of Clinton has fought Cystic Fibrosis since he was an infant.

Doing two hours of physical therapy daily and taking nearly 36 pills each day, the Mississippi accountant continues to battle the disease. These days, Blount is also getting his body prepared to run a 5K Jackson road race to help raise money to combat CF.

Blount will have his running shoes on for the 2012 Jackson Great Strides Walk/5K Run set for April 21 at Mayes Lake off Lakeland Drive. It begins with a 9 a.m. 5K registration and 9:30 a.m. walk registration.
